There were 22 Members that braved the strong wind and the odd shower with most of the field finding fish hard to come by. Leading the field was Darren North who once again had Island peg 5 handed to him by Mike. Starting over on the far shelf with pellet Darren was soon into fish, after an hour he switched to his inside line where he took fish to 6lbs to finish with a total weight of 85-14-0. Eddie Wynne took 2nd place from peg 13 by fishing tight to the far bank with maggot to finish with a total weight of 62-03-0. Bob Smith continued his good form by taking 52-09-0 from peg 19 to secure 3rd place.

Geoff stones finished 4th from Island peg 3 with 51-08-0.

The silvers prize went to Alan Smith who took Tench on corn from Bridge peg 21 for a total weight of 21-14-0.

It was a breeze day across the paddock at acorn fishery and apart from the two Smith’s most of the 24 strong field found fish hard to come by.

Top Honours on the day went to Graham Smith aka the vicar, drawn on peg 13 Graham fished over on the maggot and down his margins with corn to take Carp to 9lbs to finish with a total weight of 111-13-0. Bob Smith continued his good form drawn on Bridge peg 34 Bob fished the bread in the early stages and he the alternated between his left hand margin with corn to finish 2nd with 109-06-0. Bob Feltham secured 3rd place from Island peg 1 with 68-07-0.

Mark Walsh took 4th place from peg 15 with 58-04-0. Dave Stephenson finished with a mixed bag to take the silvers prize with 18-11-0 From peg 36

There was not a breath of wind across the Paddock at Acorn Fishery which saw most of the 23 club members found fish hard to come by.

Leading the field from Bridge peg 33 was Rich Heatley fishing tight to the Bridge, feeding 4mm pellet and baiting with hard 6mm in a band, Rich was soon taking Carp to 6lbs after the first 2 hours things began to slow so it was a matter of taking the odd fish to finish with a total weight of 112-06-0.

Bob Smith continued his good form by taking 2nd place from peg 28 by alternating between the far shelf and his right and left hand margins with soft pellet and maggot to finish with a total weight of 96-05-0. Alan Smith finished 3rd from peg 6 by fishing punched bread shallow along the bridge to finish with 89-15-0. John Thompson finished in 4th place from Island peg 3 with 89-15-0.

Mike Chapman took a mainly Tench catch by fishing the maggot and caster for a total weight of 57-01-0.

 There were 31 club members on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery and it fished well below par. Leading the field was Bob Smith drawn on Island peg 3 Bob started down the track and by feeding ground bait and maggot he was soon into Carp and then by alternating between his right hand margin and the far self with corn to finish with a total weight of 105-13-0. Rich Heatley secured 2nd place from peg 31 by fishing tight to the far bank and down his margin with pellet and corn to finish with 102-03-0, it would have been tighter contest if he had not gone over in one of his nets. Eddie Wynne filled 3rd place with 98-10-0 from peg 12 by fishing long down his right hand margin. Barrie Counsell finished 4th from Island peg 5 with 92-10-0

Top silvers on the day once again went to Mike Chapman who fished the maggot to take and all Roach catch from peg 6 that weighed in at 23-02-0.

With there being an amber weather warning for Somerset a number of members cried off, which left the smallest field of members fishing the paddock since last winter. Owing to the conditions by the time the final whistle there were only 10 members left on the venue and one of those did not weigh.

Continuing his good form was Mark Walsh who was on peg 38 and by alternating between the corn and pellet on his top 2 plus one he finished with a total weight of 70-01-0. Rich Heatley finished in 2nd place from peg 29 with a total weight of 70-00-0. Alan Smith secured 3rd place from Bridge peg 40 with 65-06-0 which included a Tench catch of 27-00-0 which won him top prize in the Silvers. Dave Gillard took 4th place from peg 11 with 51-06-0.

The Paddock at Acorn Fishery fished well below par for the 23 club members. Today’s match was in honour of passed members who are sadly no longer with us. Leading the field was Mark Walsh who put to good use what he had learnt by fishing the day before. Drawn on peg 16 and with pegs 17 and 18 empty he took full advantage and by alternating between his top 2 and soft pellet down the 3 foot shelf and the far bank with the method feeder he took carp to 6lbs for a total weight of 98-05-0. Bob Smith secured 2nd place from peg 36 by fishing Micros and corn down his right hand margin to finish with 92-13-0. Geoff Stones filled 3rd place from peg 19 with 91-01-0. Graham Smith finished in 4th place from Bridge peg 34 with a total weight 78-04-0.

Top Silvers prize on the day went to Dave Gillard who was drawn on Bridge peg 21 and by feeding 4mm pellet and fishing soft 6mm pellet on the hook he took a mix bag for a total weight of 26-07-0.

Due to another club being booked on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery 15 club members held a match at Harescombe Fishery.

Although the venue has not been fishing to well it was a very close contest, with Match Secretary Mike Chapman taking top weight overall and the Silvers. Drawing peg 4 Mike fished the caster up in the water to take small Roach and Rudd plus the odd small skimmer and the odd F1 in the later stages he switched to fshing the meat down his left hand margin to finish with a total weight of 35-09-0, which included the top silvers weight of 14-09-0.

Rich Heatley filled the runners up spot by fishing the meat down the track to take Carp, F1’s and the odd Skimmer for a total weight of 31-06-0.

Rob Dufferty took 3rd place with 29-00-0 from peg 21 with Ray Bazeley in 4th place with 27-00-0 from peg 6.

 Mike put 27 Balls in the bag of doom but owing to 1 club member not turning up a good peg was left vacant on the Paddock at Acorn fishery.

Although most of the field found carp hard to come by the Island peg produced 3 of the top 4 weights with the best of these going to Darren North and by fishing down his left hand margin and by feeding Micros and Red Maggot baiting with double red on a size 16 hook he took Carp to 8lbs for a total weight of 132-08-0 Once again Graham Smith was drawn on peg 1 and by alternating between the method feeder and his right hand margin Graham took fish steadily though out the match to secure 2nd place with 130-15-0. Rich Heatley finished in 3rd place from peg 25 with 92-07-0 with Bob Smith in 4th place from Island peg 4 with 87-10-0. Once again it was Mike Chapman who took the silvers prize from Bridge peg 21 by fishing chopped worm and caster and baiting with worn he took Tench, Skimmer Bream and Roach for a total weight of 31-13-0.

The match on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery only attracted 20 club members, with the top weight going to Bob Smith who had peg 40 drawn for him by Mike and he was not too pleased when he found out that the platform had been removed, after a great deal of gardening cutting the vegetation back on his left hand margin next to the bridge and by the time the whistle was blown he was in a better frame of mind. Electing to fish long tight to the bridge and by feeding 4mm pellet baiting with banded 6mm he was soon in to fish, and then by alternating between the near side margin and over he took Carp and Tench for a total weight of 170-15-0. Keith Ray filled the runners up spot from Bridge peg 34 but he had a very slow start but the fish soon turned up on his left hand margin and by alternating between the corn and the pellet to finish with a total weight of 154-09-0. Mark Walsh continued his good form by securing 3rd place from corner peg 26 with 152-12-0. Graham Smith finished in 4th place with 141-11-0 from Island peg 1. Mike Chapman took the silvers prize from Bridge peg 33 with a Tench and Skimmer Bream catch for 53-14-0

Despite there being a match on the Saturday the 25 club members that fished the Paddock at Acorn Fishery recorded some great weights of Carp and Silvers. Mark Walsh continued his good form from peg 9 and by fishing his top 2 and feeding 4mm Pellet and alternating between the corn and 6mm expander on the hook he took Carp to 8lbs steadily over the six hours to finish with a total weight of 234-02-0. Barrie Counsell filled the runners up spot from peg 37 by alternating between the method feeder and his margins and by fishing and feeding 6mm pellet he finished with a total weight of 155-05-0.

Geoff Stones secured 3rd place from Bridge peg 33 with 153-02-0. Graham Smith filled 4th place from Bridge peg 22 with 137-00-0.

Top Silvers on the day went to Eddie Wynne who by feeding 6mm pellet and fishing banded 6mm took 18 Tench form peg 13 for a total weight of 45-09-0.

 This Sundays Match was a charity event in support of Dogs For Good and with the owners of Acorn Fishery donating half their peg fee the event raised £212.0 for the charity. Mike Chapman wishes to thank everyone who helped and donated. Top Honours on the day went to Mark Walsh being drawn on unfancied peg 27 Mark fished his top 2 to his right and left hand sides and by feeding 4mm pellet and alternating between the paste and the corn Mark took fish to 8lds for a total weight of 157-02-0. Close on his heels was Barrie Counsell on peg 9 who took most of his fish from his left hand margin by feeding 6mm Pellet baiting with 6mm on the hook to secure 2nd place with 151-14-0. Bob Smith continued his good form by finishing 3rd from peg 29 with 107-14-0. John Thompson finished in 4th place from peg 11 with 106-07-0.

Top silvers on the day went to Dave Stephenson who took a mainly Tench catch by fishing tight to the bridge on peg 40 with soft pellet to finish with a total weight of

Despite the forecast for a hot and sunny day for most of the six hours the sky was over cast and a north wind was blowing across the Paddock and most of the 30 strong field were putting their woollens on. Top honours on the day went to Keith Ray having peg 26 drawn for him by Mike, Keith started by fishing the method feeder over which produced a few fish.Switching to feeding micros down his left and right and alternating between 6mm expander pellet and maggot on a size 16 hook Keith took fish to 8lds to finish with a total weight of 156-06-0. Bob Smith continued his good form from Bridge peg 34 and by fishing over and the middle of the bridge with corn and pellet he took fish steadily throughout the match to finish with a total weight of 143-15-0.

Darren North secured 3rd place from peg 11 with 133-04-0 with Mark Walsh in 4th place from bridge peg 21 with 79-02-0.

Top silvers on the day went to Mike Chapman who took a mixed bag of Tench Skimmer Bream and Roach on the Caster from peg 10 to finish with 45-01-0.

Club treasurer Bob Smith took top honours in the latest club contest on the paddock at Acorn Fishery that attracted a field of 25.

Having peg 12 drawn for him by Mike, Bob got to his peg only to find it was covered in scum and fluff, but this did not put him off and he was soon in to fish, in the early stages he fished tight to the far bank with the pellet which produced a few fish, Switching to his margins after an hour and by alternating between the corn and maggot he took fish steadily, with the last hour proving to be the best to finish with a total weight of 164-03-0.

Mark Walsh secured 2nd place from peg 24 by fishing his top 2 down the 2nd shelf on corn and pellet to finish with 146-06-0, just a head of Barrie Counsell who fished the method feeder on Island peg 4 to finish 3rd with 146-01-0.

Alan Smith filled the 4th spot from Bridge peg 34 with 104-13-0.

The Silvers prize on the day went to Bob Feltham who took 14 Tench on the corn from peg 11 for a total weight of 33-06-0.

Despite going over in one of his nets Club Member Mark Walsh had a comfortable victory in the latest club match fished on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery.

Being drawn on peg 9 Mark fished his top 2 down the second self on his right and left hand margins and by alternating between the Pellet and the Paste Mark took fish to 8lds to finish with a total weight of 176-06-0 It was the runners up spot once again for Bob Smith drawn on peg 27 Bob Fished over with Pellet in the early stages, switching to his margins with corn and pellet to finish with a total weight of 121-8-0. Darren North took 3rd place from peg 18 with 99-06-0. John Thompson secured 4th place from peg 13 with 93-06-0. Top Silvers on the day went to Jeff Grant who took Tench on the caster from Bridge peg 40 to finish with 30-10-0.

 Despite there being 2 no shows it was still a good turnout for the latest club match with 26 in attendance on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery.

Keith Ray continued his good form by taking top honours from peg 12 Alternating between the feeder fished tight to the far bank with banded 6mm pellet and fishing  his left and right hand margins with soft pellet and corn Keith took fish to 6lds steadily throughout the match to finish with a total weight of 133-07-0. Bob Smith filled the runners up stop from Island peg 5 by fishing his left hand margin and by feeding 4mm pellet and baiting with banded pellet on a size 16 hook to finish with a total weight f 112-09-0. Barrie Counsell took 3rd place from Island peg 4 with 109-01-0 with most of his fish falling to the method feeder fished tight to the far bank. Eddie Wynne finished in 4th place with 87-11-0 from peg 18.

Leading the field was Eddie Wynne who had peg 25 drawn for him by Mike, where he fished tight to the far bank and by loose feeding 6mm pellet and baiting a size 16 hook with banded 8mm Eddie took carp steadily over the course of the match to finish with a total weight of 129-01-0.

Paul Haines took 2nd place from Island peg 1 by fishing his top 2 down his right hand margin with pellet to finish with 125-11-0. John Thompson secured 3rd place from peg 31 with 114-12-0 taken on the corn down his right and left hand margins. Rich Heatley finished in 4th place from Bridge peg 22 with 108-13-0. High winds were the order of the day on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery, and with gusts up to 40 miles an hour made fishing the long pole very difficult. With 27 members in attendance peging was once again very tight. Leading the field on the day was Bob Smith drawn on peg 11 Bob alternated between the corn and the pellet down his right and left hand margins to take carp to 6lds for a total weight of 124-04-0. Keith Ray secured 2nd place from Bridge peg 33 by fishing the tip in the early stages before fishing maggot over micros down his margins to finish with a total weight of 120-14-0.

Darren North filled 3rd place from Island peg 5 with 112-01-0 Mark Walsh took 4th place from peg 16 with 105-14-0. Top silvers on the day went to the Tench King Eddie Wynne drawn on Bridge peg 40 Eddie had 20 Tench taken on the pellet for a total weight of 57-11-0.

 It was a case of strong winds and showers facing the club members on the paddock at Acorn Fishery and with there being a match on their Saturday weights were well below par. Leading the field was Bob Feltham who was the only angler to break the ton, Having peg 12 drawn for him by Mike, Bob Elected to fish down the track and the second shelf down his right hand margin and by feeding 6mm pellet and baiting with 8mm pellet on a size 14 hook he took fish steaderly from both lines to finish with a total weight of 116-05-0. Rich Heatley filled the runners up spot from peg 13 with most of his fishing falling to the feeder. Inform member Bob Smith secured 3rd place from peg 16 with most of his fish being taken on the maggot from his left hand margin for a total weight of 88-03-0. Alan Taylor filled 4th place with 84-03-0 from Island peg 4.

Top silvers weight on the day went to Andy Howells who took Tench to 5lds on the paste from Bridge peg 40 for a total weight of 33-12-0.

Club member Bob Smith had a runner way victory in the latest club contest on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery. Drawn on peg 31 Bob started long fishing tight to the far back and by feeding 4mm pellet with a 6mm on a size 18 hook he was soon into the carp while most of the field were struggling to get a bite. The far bank line soon dried up, he then switched to fishing ground bait and maggot down his left and right hand margins and by alternating between maggot and corn fished on a size 16 hook he keep the Carp coming steadily till the end of the match to finish with a total weight of 146-14-0. Fishing his first club contest since the lock down Ray Bazeley Secured 2nd place from peg 15, taking 6 carp on the feeder fished tight to the far bank the rest coming from his right hand margin were he took fish to 8lds on the maggot over a bed of ground bait for a total weight of 77-07-0. Kieth Ray finished 3rd from peg 16 with most of his fish coming in the last hour of the match to finish with 73-01-0, closely followed by Pete Uzzel  who had  72-12-0 from peg 37 for 4th place Top Silver’s on the day went to Mark Walsh who draw Bridge peg 21 and by fishing corn he had an all Tench net for 34-04-0

Another good turn out with 27 club members in attendance and once again it was club match organiser Mike Chapman who took top honours, drawing Island peg 1 Mike started by alternating between 2 swims down the track with maggot and caster catching silvers. In the later stages he switch to fishing his right hand margin with ground bait and maggot to take carp to 6lds to finish with a total weight of 106-13-0 ,

Matt Williams filled the runners up spot from peg 25 by fishing paste down his left hand margin to finish with 105-08-0.

On the next peg, 24 Paul Haines fished the Pellet over to finish 3rd with 82-03-0

Keith Ray was on Bridge peg 22 where he took 80-14-0 of carp for 4th place

Top Silvers on the day went to Rod Dufferty drawing peg 21 Rod fished the corn to take 38-06-0 of Tench.

There were 26 club members in attendance on the Paddock at Acorn for this Sundays contest, that saw match organizer Mike Chapman taking top honours from peg 12. After losing 4 carp on his silvers gear Mike switched to fishing ground bait and maggot down his right hand margin which produced a procession of small carp a few better ones turned up later in the day to give him an overall weight of 111-05-0.

Well Clear of second placed Rich Heatley who drew Island peg 4 and alternated between fishing tight to the far bank and his left hand margin to finish with 93-07-0. Bob Smith once again draw peg 9 and took 90-09-0 of Carp to secure 3rd place  Alan Smith had 90-02-0 from peg 24 to finish 4th.

Top Silvers on the day went to Alan Taylor who had an all Tench net taken on the corn from peg 21 for a total weight of 28-11-0.

The first match since the lockdown attracted 29 club members but the big weights that everyone was expecting did not happen with Keith Ray the only one to catch a ton. Drawing peg 9 Keith along with the rest of the field struggled to get bites, it was only by fishing the feeder over he was able to take a few fish to 6lds. In the latter stages he switch to fishing ground bait and maggot down his right and left hand margins to finish with a total weight of 103-07-0. Bob Smith finished in 2nd place from peg 30 by alternating between soft pellet and the corn fished over and down the margins for a total weight of 94-02-0. Eddie Wynne filled 3rd spot from peg 27 with 88-08-0. Pete Uzzal secured 4th place with 84-01-0 from peg 13

                                                                  24/05/2020 Report on the clubs Pleasure fishing day at Acorn Paddock

Once again the club fished the Paddock at Acorn for a pleasure fishing day with 24 on the bank the anticipation for some great catches were the order of the day and those that fished were not disappointed. With plenty of Carp, Tench, Skimmer Bream and Roach being taken from all over the lake. Cliff Jenkins fished the paste and could not stop catching Tench. Although there were shouts of get back over the Bridge to Rich Heatley he did not let this put him off and according to reports had well over 300lds. Any way campers the good news is take your nets next week the club will be allowed matches from next Sunday. Don’t forget to book in with Mike Stay Alert



                                                             17/05/2020 Report on the clubs Pleasure fishing day at Acorn Paddock

With the Club having full use of the Paddock 22 club members took full advantage and with social distancing in place every one had ample room well away from their fellow angler. Fish once again were in a feeding mood with a great deal of anglers having well over 200lds. Just to highlight a few, Ray Cooper on peg 1 taking over 60 Carp, Keith Ray on 33 had 50 and some nice Tench and Bob Feltham on 34 taking over 40 Carp. Tench were showing all over with Mike Chapman having one around 6lds. Well done all for keeping the rules you know it makes sense. The Highlight of the day came in the shape of Mark Walsh, fishing peg 25 he was not happy with being an Angler for the day he tried his hand at becoming an Olympic Diver only to find out when his head popped up above the waves he had received nil points from his fellow anglers. Bright sunshine and a brisk easterly wind greeted the club members on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery. Darren was given peg 6 and by loose feeding maggot and baiting with double maggot on a size 18 hook fished down the track to take carp to 6lds from a total weight of  96-08-0

Despite the heavy rain there was a good turn out for the clubs match on the Paddock at Acorn Fishery. Although there was a wrong doing at the draw someone took 2 pegs from the bag whether it was intentional or not the culprit should have put the 2 pegs back in the bag and drawn again but they did not they put the peg in the tray and recorded I would imagine what they thought was the better peg. Top Honours on the day went to Mike Wilson from peg 9 despite losing 7 carp from over the far side, Mike went on to take a further 9 Carp on the corn for a total weight of 47-07-0. Alan Smith Secured 2nd place from Bridge peg 22 with 41-12-0 of carp taken on corn fish tight to the bridge on the far side. Mike Chapman finished with a mixed bag of Carp and Skimmer Bream which fell to float fished maggot and weighed in at 39-09-0 from Island peg 5 Dave Stephenson took 4th spot form Island peg 1 with 35-13-0 Top Silvers on the day went to Rob Dufferty from peg 13 with a Tench and Skimmer Bream catch taken on the maggot and corn  for a total weight of 24-08-0.

Club Secretary Mike Chapman finished in 2nd place from peg 7 with a mixed bag of Carp and Silvers taken on the maggot for 32-00-0,

Ted Bethel filled 3rd place from peg 11 with 26-02-0, with Mark Walsh finishing 4th with 22-02-0 from peg 18.

The Silvers prize on the day went to Rex Davis who took 15 Tench from peg 37 for a total weight of 20-11-0.

The first hard frost of the winter first thing and bright sunshine was the order of the day with some anglers finding it hard to see their float through the glare. Rich Heatley took top honours without feeding a single morsel. Drawn on peg 15 Rich float fished tight to the far bank and by dobbing the punch bread some 4 inches of bottom which produced fish within the first 10 minutes, by 1 o’clock he had 14 carp in the net when things slowed he took a further 4 fish for a total weigh of 65-09-0 Bryan Hadley continued his good form by fishing the maggot down the track on peg 7 where he took carp to 8lds for a total weight of 52-08-0 to secured 2nd place. Mike Wilson took 3rd place from peg 13 with 39-07-0. Drawing unfancied peg 36 and electing to start on is top 2 plus 1 down the track and by feeding maggot, Rob was soon onto fish and then by alternating between top 2 plus 1 and top 2 plus 2 he continued to catch. I the later stages he fished down his left hand margin with the maggot to finish with a total weight of 76-14-0. Bob Smith continued his good form from peg 38 by fishing the maggot down the track adjacent to the pallet on peg 37 to secure 2nd place with 64-05-0. Dave Stephenson took 3rd place fro peg 7 with 48-05-0. Ted Bethel finished 4th with 47-11-0 from peg 11.
